This program converts raw ZX Spectrum screen image files from .SCR format to
GIF87a format. A special option is the conversion of FLASHing screens to
animated GIF89a files, to be used on a web page!

This program is provided "as is", without any warranties, nor an indication
that it will fit the purpose.
SCR2GIF has been tested on several systems and OSes, causing no problems.
If you want to use this program, though, you do so at your own risk.
This means that it is extremely unlikely to damage your system, but if the
unthoughtful event DOES happen, you will be on your own.
ThunderWare Research Center can and will accept no claims whatsoever.

This program is neither public domain nor shareware: it's freeware.
This means that anyone is allowed to distribute and use the program, but all
copyrights are still owned by ThunderWare Research Center.
You can therefor not request any money from anyone for copying this program,
apart from the expenses made for the media onto which it has been copied.
The package contents may not be changed when distributing it. At least the
following files should be present:

   SCR2GIF.C source text file
   SCR2GIF.DOC this documentation file

Remember you can always freely obtain the latest version from
The World of Spectrum, at:

Or you can try:

1.1 11-03-20: Fixed some errors
1.0 26-05-98: First public release

  SCR2GIF [-f] filename[.scr] ...

-f Convert FLASHing screens to GIF89a animated GIF files.

Wildcards are fully supported, so you can use "*.scr" to convert all SCR files
in a directory at once.

- Only plays in Netscape 2.0 or better, but does work on many platforms
(Windows, Mac, Amiga, Unix, etc) - even when cached!
- It cannot be used as a background GIF. Only the first image will display.
- Non-supporting browsers either display the FIRST image (eg. Cello, Microsoft
Internet Explorer, Netcruiser, NCSA Mosaic, Quarterback Mosaic or Netscape
Navigator before v2.0) or the LAST image (eg. AOL2.5 or SUN's HotJava).

The source is provided in fully portable ANSI C, the source text is written in
132 columns.

If you make any fundamental change to the source, you are requested - but not
obligated - to send the changed source back to me, so that everyone can benefit
from it. My e-mail address is `mheide()'
